With our skin being our largest organ and our body being comprised of about 60% water, the importance of staying hydrated should be obvious. Plain, simple water is the essence of life, and one of the easiest ways to have a good complexion is to simply keep your skin well-moisturized and radiant. But in our chaotic, stressful world, it’s a little difficult to maintain its suppleness. Environmental pollution, anxiety, and even our own reluctance to spend much time on self-care, all leads to wrinkles and dryness, and most people need a bit of help to get their complexion back in order. Hydrate from the inside

It’s one of the easiest, and yet most overlooked things that you can do to keep your skin soft. Since drinking enough can be a little tricky if you’re constantly busy and never remember to hydrate properly, you can use a few tricks to help you out. For example, keeping a water bottle next to you as you go about your day will prompt you to keep sipping from it slowly, or you could try setting up reminders on your phone. If you don’t like the taste of water, feel free to add a few cucumber slices or a little lemon juice to make it more palatable.

Turn on the humidifier

Heating is a pretty cozy thing during the colder months, however it tends to change the quality of the air and dry our skin out. If you keep having issues with dry eyes and flaky skin, try getting a humidifier for your bedroom and living room to make it easier.

Good moisturizing habits

Good skincare habits are important, and any person who wishes to care for their complexion should develop a proper regiment to suit them. Cleanse your face every evening to wash away all the dirt and sweat that might be clogging your pores, exfoliate twice a week, and use a quality cream to keep everything soft and smooth. As long as you use good moisturising skincare regularly, you should have a much easier time keeping your complexion nourished and glowy. And truly, consistency is the key here. Consider natural oils

If your skin is very dry and very sensitive, you could consider the use of natural oils to care for it. Rosehip oil is particularly excellent for aging skin because it will not only soften and nourish, but help fade any hyperpigmentation spots or scarring. Natural oils are generally a pretty great thing to use on your skin, especially if you opt for cold-pressed organic oils without any additives. Even acne-prone complexions can benefit from things like tea tree and lavender oil. We wouldn’t recommend using only oils because they can clog your pores over time and don’t contain all of the ingredients you might need to keep your skin healthy, but they can be layered on top of your other skincare items and used once or twice a week.

Reduce your shower time

While there’s nothing quite as relaxing as a long, hot shower after a tough day at work, you probably shouldn’t indulge in this practice too often if you want to keep your skin healthy. Hot water strips our skin of its oils and dries it out pretty quickly, so try to reduce your shower time or to keep the water at slightly lower temperatures. Of course, it’s a good idea to rub in a nourishing lotion as soon as you’re done bathing so you could feed your skin back some nourishment.

Always wear sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must. Wear it every day of the year, regardless of how cold and cloudy it might be, and you’ll be doing your skin a huge service. It’s one of the top ways to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and sun spots, and it also protects you from cancer and keeps your complexion smooth and hydrated.
